  2. If you are unable to access your e-mail, you can call Wilson Technologies at the Co-Op offices at (630) 553-5833 x144.

SUPPORT STANDARDS

Wilson Technologies is providing workstation and network support for Kendall County Special Education Cooperative. If you have general support questions, you can send email to tech@kcsec.org and we will respond within 72 hours. If you have a hardware or software problem that requires onsite support, you can also call us at 815-341-4059 and we will work with you to resolve the problem.

Note: At a later date, we will add a trouble reporting form to this page.

EMAIL STANDARDS

KCSEC will continue to email to transmit information to it's employees. All KCSEC employees will be issued an email account, and will be encouraged to use email to communicate - not only within KCSEC, but also to people outside of the cooperative wherever appropriate. Email addresses will be created in the form firstinitial-lastname@kcsec.org- for example, the email address for Joe Cool will be "jcool@kcsec.org", and Joe's login will be "jcool-kcsec.org". In some rare cases, this rule will be altered to avoid duplicate email accounts.

It will be the responsibility of each employee to check their email no less than three times per week. This will ensure that you get any and all staff announcements and information in a timely manner. This will support our effort to eliminate many of the paper memos and notices that are distributed and mailed on a regular basis.

FOR OUTLOOK OR ENTOURAGE USERS:

To check your email, you can set up your e-mail client (MAC-Entourage or WIN-Outlook) to connect to the POP server and download your email on a daily basis. On shared workstations, separate email accounts will need to be established. Here are the email client settings:

POP Server: mail.kcsec.org
SMTP Server: mail.kcsec.org
login: jcool@kcsec.org

passwd: joespassword

Users have the option of checking their email using the web-based email client software using Internet Explorer. This can be done from any internet-connected PC anywhere. Simply point your browser to the link at the top of this page, and log on using your login and password. Remember your login is in the form "jcool@kcsec.org". Keep your password secure, and do not allow other users to log in with your login/passwd.

WORKSTATION SOFTWARE STANDARDS

KCSEC has adopted the Microsoft Office suite of applications as the standard for creating any sort of document. By adhering to this standard, we can be assured that our documents will be readable across any hardware platform, and by anyone in the cooperative.

Macintosh Workstations and Laptops will be loaded with the following software:

  • Mac OS-X (version dependent on hardware capabilities)
  • Microsoft Office-X (Macintosh
    • includes MS Excel Spreadsheet application
    • Microsoft Word word processor application
    • Microsoft PowerPoint presentation graphics application
    • Microsoft Entourage E-Mail Client, Calendar, and Address book application
  • Safari Internet Browser for MAC
  • Symantec/Norton AntiVirus for MAC (corporate edition)

Windows PC Workstations and Laptops will be loaded with the following software:

  • Microsoft Windows XP-pro or Windows 98 operating system
  • Microsoft Office XP for Windows
    • includes MS Excel Spreadsheet application
    • Microsoft Word word processor application
    • Microsoft PowerPoint presentation graphics application
    • Microsoft Outlook E-Mail Client, Calendar, and Address book application
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 for Windows
  • Microsoft Works 6.0 (for documents previously created with Works)
  • Symantec/Norton AntiVirus for WIN (corporate edition)

In setting these standards, we hope to gain organization-wide standardization for creation & editing of documents, and distribution of information.

If you are still using another software package as a word processor, you should convert your documents to MS-Word. Older vintage software is no longer supported. If you need help converting documents, contact Wilson Technologies.

WORKSTATION HARDWARE STANDARDS:

We are continually updating hardware across the cooperative. We cannot replace all old hardware immediately, but we have a plan in place that will keep hardware on a 5 year rotation schedule. This means we expect a workstation to be useful and usable for a minimum of five years. Hardware greater than 5 years old becomes more expensive to maintain. This is a guideline and may be altered on a case by case basis as needed.

In many cases, our workstations will be required to attach to a school's established local area network. Both MAC and Windows workstations are fully capable of connecting to any TCP/IP local network, and accessing the internet. We will work with your school district's IT staff to get your computer connected to their network.

For this year, any new workstation hardware will have the following features:

  • CD-ROM DVD or CDRW drive
  • USB ports for connecting peripherals
  • Minimum size 15" Color 1024x768 or greater resolution monitor
  • Internet TCP/IP connection
