Kendall County Special Olympics
Special Olympics training and competition is open to every person with a mental/physical disability who is at least eight years of age and who registers to participate in Special Olympics. There is no maximum age limitation for participation. All athletes must have a current medical in order to participate.
Kendall County Special Olympics is in Area 2 of Special Olympics Illinois, located in St. Charles. We have been serving athletes with special needs since 1970. We maintain our program through Kendall County Special Education Cooperative. There are currently 35 registered athletes who live through out Kendall County; they range in age from 8-50 years of age. Our athletes compete in five sports annually Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, Swimming, Track & Field, and Bowling.
There is a minimum of three coaches per sport and approximately 20 volunteers that annually assist with the various sports. Many of our athletes need constant assistance and/or encouragement therefore we need many hands to run our program. All sports follow the same basic pattern registration for the sport, training and practices, area then, regional and/or state competition. We also have an athlete recognition banquet, several fundraisers, and participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run every summer and our post-season banquet.
