From the Director, Lynda Shanks

We will soon be opening the doors of our buildings for the 2010-2011 school year. We did finish strong last spring and left for a summer of rest and rejuvenation as the 2009-2010 school year brought about much change for KCSEC. Change is much easier to accept if we choose to make the changes ourselves and on our own personal time frames, but this was not the case for any of us at KCSEC. Although this was a tumultuous spring that constantly begged the question, “What is all this going to look like next year?” and so many other unanswered questions, I am truly looking forward to the opportunities that are going to surface this school year.

KCSEC organization and staff are resilient, flexible and change agents. We are trained as individuals who work with special education students to assess the problem, gather data, analyze and problem solve. I am confident that this year will bring the problem solving process to light in ways we never thought possible to make us all stronger and our services more valuable to our member districts, parents and students.

“We keep moving forward, opening NEW doors and doing NEW things. Our curiosity keeps taking us down NEW paths.” ~ Walt Disney

We will be posting all the beginning of the year information on the KCSEC website this week. Central Staff members are returning to work on Monday, August 16th. All other staff members report on Tuesday, August 17th to Yorkville Middle School for a prompt 8:00 am start for the mandatory inservice day.

Opening Day will be formatted differently this year. We are going to condense the day so that you can do a lunch on your own with your colleagues and have time in your buildings in the afternoon with your classroom teams. As one effort to condense the day, we will not be serving breakfast, but will provide a midday snack. These snacks will be provided by our Teacher’s Association, SEAKC. Thank you SEAKC! The day will include team meetings, KCSEC business, staff recognition and a motivational keynote speaker. We will be breaking for lunch on your own at approximately 1:00 pm, so please plan accordingly. You will be expected to report to your buildings to work with your classroom teams for the remainder of the day until 4 pm. We are excited to be able to offer this new format to allow the staff to meet in their building and classroom settings before the students arrive and all the building commitments are in place.

Please see the website for additional information on beginning of the year activities. See you on Tuesday, August 17th at Yorkville Middle School, 920 Prairie Crossing Drive, Yorkville! Registration is from 7:15 am to 7:50 am.
